Mishaps send several Muscatine residents to hospital

A Muscatine man, Richard Leroy Staats, 23, of 210 W 71st St, is in fairly good condition at Muscatine General Hospital after his 1954 Ford slid on a shipyard surface on Steward Rd and struck a tree. In another crash at E 5th St and Willow, Donald Badtram and Tommy Lamp, both 18, were injured. Lamp treated for a cut lip. Margarita Miller, 24, Columbus Junction, was cited for failure to yield after a two car collision at Imperial Service station driveway. The Muscatine Journal notes morning accident on W 8th St involving Angel Rodriguez and Danny Burke, with damage to both 1964 cars.

Car theft and several property crimes reported overnight

A 1957 Chevrolet stolen from Paetz parking lot between 3 and 6 p.m. Monday. A .22 rifle was in a case in the car. Lights stolen from a Raymond Lake home. A 1970 Oldsmobile damaged at Stiles lot late Monday night. A 1960 two door touring car stripped at Demorest Ave. Storage shed break in reported with acetylene and oxygen tanks missing. Montgomery Elevator truck wind shield and headlight damaged along the riverfront.

Morgenthau Says He Will Resign From Post

U S Attorney Robert Morgenthau announced his resignation effective January 15 under pressure from a White House ultimatum. The 50 year old Democrat, who was Nixon’s target after a 1962 gubernatorial run, will leave the Southern District of New York after more than eight years in office and plans a vacation with his wife with no political ambitions at present.

Nixon White House turkey dinner guest list grows

President and Mrs. Nixon and daughter Tricia will host Mamie Eisenhower at a White House Christmas dinner. Afterward they will call friends to wish them well. Julie Nixon and David Eisenhower mark their first wedding anniversary as they stay in Brussels with Ambassador and Mrs. Eisenhower.

Grant supports Wesleyan art center in Iowa

The Kent-Stein Foundation of Muscatine announced a $6,000 grant to Iowa Wesleyan College in Mt. Pleasant to aid development of the college art center. John B. Schumacher said the gift will help build the new center and encourage further support, as the foundation is funded by Grain Processing Corp. and Kent Feeds.
