Snow slick Muscatine streets spark nine accidents
In Muscatine Iowa on Monday night snow and freezing temperatures caused at least nine accidents in a three hour span from 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. Police listed fender benders and collisions at various locations including Fulliam and Neilson Drive, Park Avenue near Muscatine Plaza, Wier Street near Geneva Drive, and Eighth Street near Whicher. Thefts were reported as oil barrel theft from a backyard, about $100 stolen from an apartment, and an eight track tape player plus speakers stolen from a car at Heinz parking lot.

Christmas reading slated at library and forensics results
Muscatine High School students shone at a West High School tournament with top debate and extemporaneous speaking finishes. The varsity team placed second overall with 276 speaker points, while individual events saw Suzi Smith third in dramatic interpretation and original oratory. A Christmas reading at the library Thursday 4 to 5 p.m. features readings around the tree from Scrooge, The Steadfast Tin Soldier, How the Grinch Stole Christmas, and Twas the Night Before Christmas.

New officers elected by Muscatine Toastmasters Club
Muscatine Toastmasters elected officers for 1975 at a Monday meeting at Kathy's. Dick Witter was named president, Wayne Brugger educational vice president, John Yoder administrative vice president, Steve Yankee secretary, Bode LaBode treasurer, and Steve Warner sergeant at arms. Experimental aircraft group holds Christmas dinner
The Muscatine Chapter of Experimental Aircraft Association No. 111 held its annual Christmas dinner at Dan De Donuts with spouses attending. Noel Hoopes formally passed the gavel to president-elect Dave Maxwell. Members toured Muscatine's Christmas displays and viewed homebuilt aircraft projects. The group later joined Chapter 75 in Davenport for a family potluck at the Durant Community Center where Santa Claus distributed gifts. Music was by Michael Salecki.

JCPenney to Open New Muscatine Store in Plaza
The J C Penney Company plans a 47940 square foot department store at Muscatine Plaza replacing the current Penney location at 2nd St and Iowa Ave. The store opens in early 1976 with expanded catalog sales, more apparel and home merchandise, new lines, and a larger gift station. Developer is General Growth Properties Des Moines architect Derwood Quade. Regional VP William A Perry says the project marks a major local investment.

Ev Colbert told the Muscatine county board the health center can supply a county medical examiner at 50 dollars per case plus mileage. Dr W W Swayze resigns December 31 after 12 years, handling about 48 deaths in 10 months at about 14 hours per case. center adopts the 50 dollar per case rate to stay economically feasible. The board will decide on a two year term for the new examiner.
