West Liberty A Small Town with Big Public Spirit
West Liberty, Iowa, a bustling town of 1,800 by Robert H. Wiley, prides itself on civic generosity and rapid response to public needs. Its 1905 library, built on Fourth and Spencer, honors donor Mrs. Lon Hauer and the “mother of the public library” Mrs. A. Quier, reflecting a strong community ethos and a solid school system with North Central listed high standards. The town features metropolitan stores, robust merchants, and active civic life, including a public library and electric light and water works projects, with notable citizens like Robert Brooke, J. C. Park, and Mrs. J. C. Hall guiding local institutions.
