Farm Bureau declines repeal of soil subsidy program
At its annual convention in Chicago the American Farm Bureau Federation voted to oppose ending the $250 million soil subsidy program. Delegates reaffirmed last year’s platform calling for reduced government role in agriculture, fewer controls, and no compensatory payments. They backed continued support for terracing, levelling, irrigation, pond building, and wildlife refuges while planning to elect Charles B. Shuman and Walter Randulph for another term. The group also directed the 1964 convention be held in Philadelphia.
