Denver police reveal a second blackmail attempt against Mrs Genevieve Chandler Phipps former Pittsburg steel executive’s widow. The letter demands ten thousand dollars in hundreds placed in a tin box and left Sunday at 6 pm in a vacant lot opposite Jesuit College with threats of deadly harm if police are notified.
Hubbard, a noted Ames football player, was ruled ineligible in the Drake game by the Missouri Valley Conference eligibility committee. The ruling was communicated to the two Iowa institutions, with chairman Prof. L. M. Byers saying details would not be discussed publicly before athletic authorities in Des Moines and Ames receive the notice.
The protest remained sustained and the inference is that Hubbard's play was illegal, casting doubt on any Ames victories in which he played if conference rules applied, making those wins potentially invalid.
