Muscatine Council to Revisit Hay Market Site Debate
The Muscatine city council will meet on Tuesday to again consider Hay Market location and to assess efforts by supporters of immediate action to prevent aldermen from acquiring the market site. The City Hall dispute linked with Bay Market Night will be resumed as opponents press for reconsideration of building at the old market site. A communication from architect J I Mills will be introduced to counter the claim that 25000 dollars would be spent on substructure if the Hay Market site is chosen. A telegram to City Recorder H P Caple stated extra cost for Hay Market would not exceed 5000 over other sites and changing plans now nearly complete would cost more than the additional foundation. Tuesday's session is expected to be as interesting as Thursday’s pyrotechnics night.
