Contractor Starts Driving Piles For Power Plant Expansion

L H Bolduc Co Inc of Minneapolis began driving piles for Muscatine's power plant expansion after winning the contract at 144 775 dollars with a 75 day completion target. The 12 inch metal pile shells, 60 feet deep, will form a solid foundation beneath heavy turbine and generator machinery, with 440 piles total. The project uses diesel pile drivers and is overseen by Stanley Consultants.

Alderman To Discuss Sewer Grant Tonight

Muscatine aldermen meet at 6 30 p m to discuss a 1 5 million area sewer program grant from the housing department with a December 15 final application deadline. The plan covers Mad Creek and Papoose Creek valleys and would be matched by 1 5 million from the city for sanitary and storm sewer needs.

Gerhard Morenings of Nichols presented a luncheon program for the Muscatine Kiwanis club featuring slides from a 1955 expedition as a medical missionary to Amazon Indian tribes in Brazil. Dr Carl Egger of GPC and Bob Honts attended as guests.

Coleman Exhibit Opens at Laura Musser Museum

A reception for Carroll Coleman at the Laura Musser Museum and Art Gallery drew 135 attendees with 20 more volunteers aiding Muscatine County Museum and Fine Arts Association. Coleman, a former Muscatine resident now running Prairie Press in Iowa City, is a renowned book designer, publisher and former Muscatine Journal printer. Fifteen of his award winning books are joining the museum’s permanent collection.

Mrs Ivan Klein, a hostess at the reception for Darrell Coleman, met with him Monday evening at the Laura Musser Museum and Art Gallery. A display designed by Mr Coleman featuring books pamphlets and other materials is open to the public photos show the event.

Christmas Packages Mailed to 40 Servicemen

Forty U S servicemen will receive extra Christmas packages thanks to a local group's effort. Mrs Bernard Bean said 40 packages are mailed, each with at least one new pillow case and other items. Don Law and John Dahlton, both 17, started the project with Debbie Briggs helping. Over 1000 items donated, postage about 45.95 dollars. Twenty six packages go to Lonely Serviceman recipients at APOs. others routed through Dennis Farrar in a Navy post in Vietnam.

Miller gets six months for breaking and entering

Russell Lloyd Miller of Muscatine was sentenced in Muscatine County district court to six months in a county jail for breaking and entering Knights of Columbus Hall on November 13. He pled guilty and received credit for time served while awaiting trial. The daylight break-in occurred at 12 a.m. on November 13.
