Downtown Muscatine Association Grows With 85 Members

By Gil Dietz The Greater Downtown Muscatine Association has 85 members and rapid growth. A breakfast meeting at Hotel Muscatine launched a membership drive led by Lynn Stiles. J H Petersen and others spoke on unity, parking, and the district’s renewal potential.

Muscatine City Council to tackle broad agenda

The Muscatine city council convenes at 7 30 p m Thursday in city hall with a lengthy agenda covering traffic and transportation issues, including a $100 monthly subsidy increase for Midwest Transit Lines, a loading zone for Port City Yellow Taxi, and potential changes to parking near Mulberry Avenue. It may also introduce first readings on beer and liquor amendments and hair nets for food service, set group insurance bids, name six sirens, approve secondary treatment consent orders, hire an assistant city engineer, and issue bids for street department equipment.

Central Jr high Christmas concert set for Monday

The Central Junior High Music Department will stage a Christmas Concert on Monday at 7 30 p m in the High School auditorium. Featured groups include 7th and 8th grade girls and boys glee clubs 9th grade chorus and the concert band with about 175 students participating.

HON Industries Buys Building on 3rd Street

Stanley M. Howe, president of HON Industries, announced the purchase of the building at 414 E. 3rd St opposite the county courthouse. The firm plans to add office facilities with occupancy set for the latter half of 1970 after refurbishing.

The Des Moines regional SBA office announced a loan officer and management specialist will be in Davenport on Tuesday December 16. Local small businesses are urged to visit the Chamber of Commerce office in Davenport to discuss SBA programs.

Three Cars Damaged in Hershey Ave Collision

A chain reaction crash at 7:58 a.m. on Hershey Ave at Clin ton St damaged three cars. Fern Elizabeth Van Zandt, 52, drove a 1958 Plymouth. Dennis Fugene Dilts, 21, a 1950 Willys wagon. Randy Eugene Walch, 17, a 1950 Plymouth. All were eastbound. Van Zandt and Dilts stopped at a sign while Walch’s brake failure prevented stopping.

Butler addresses Muscatine Kiwanis on personal relations

Ron Butler, director of institutional services at Eastern Town College, spoke to the Kiwanis Club of Muscatine on the importance of interpersonal communication in a talk titled The Last Two Feet. He urged self-control, tolerance, truth, commitments, effort, clear communication, and confident sincerity. Musicians Union Names Officers for 1970

At a regular meeting the Musicians Union counted ballots for the annual election. Elected were Dave Warner president Lonnie Sulzberger vice president Al Knapp secretary treasurer. Executive board members include Granny Caple Tom Carpenter John Fifer Don Kemp Don Olson Don Tibbetts and Dick Willits. Knapp reminded members that 1970 dues are due and payable and officers will be installed at the January meeting.

Rev Lenoch marks 25 years in priesthood in Kinross Iowa

The Rev. Father Francis J. Lenoch celebrated 25 years in Holy Priesthood with a Mass in Kinross Iowa. More than 50 visiting dignitaries and priests attended including bishops monsignors and Jesuit leaders. A reception and dinner followed at Lenochs Kinross home with remarks by Rev. Edward Cronin Greer and other attendees.
