Three receive life saving awards in Des Moines area
A housewife from Brooklyn Mrs Merlin Manatt and two young women Laurie Ashland 17 from Clear Lake and Charmia Kline 20 of Des Moines were honored by the Town Farm Safety Council. Manatt saved a five year old boy from flames near burning leaves by beating out the fire and using a garden hose. Ashland babysat a 14 month old who swallowed poison and promptly gave an antidote before calling a doctor. Kline on a Des Moines Transit Co bus stopped a bus when the driver suffered a heart attack by grabbing the wheel and steering to the roadside.
