Illinois Central Expanding Signal Changes for Gulf Route
Railmen predict big shifts as Illinois Central plans to extend through Chicago and St Paul service to Albert Lea and on to the Minneapolis & St. Louis system. Engineers survey lines from Manly Junction to connect with Iowa Central, cutting distances toward a Gulf route via New Orleans. The move would shorten routes for grain shipping and extend through service from St. Paul to Peoria and St Louis, potentially merging operations into a single, closely linked system.
