Kermit Roosevelt with Captain Fitzhugh Lee and Lieutenant Phil Sheridan arrive with federal cavalry near Brighton Iowa and expect to reach Muscatine by Saturday night or Sunday morning amid crowds lining streets seeking a glimpse of the President's son and his aides.
Corporal James O'Brien and privates Harry and George Smith travel with a detachment of over 309 soldiers bound for Rock Island Arsenal to gather supplies. They expect a midday Saturday arrival in Muscatine with camps set on fair grounds and a Sunday drill planned. Kermit Roosevelt joins the unit, receiving typical soldierly duties and respectful reception from his comrades.

St Marys Roman Catholic church in Racine Wisconsin bans rice at weddings to prevent nuisance and danger according to Father Meyer the pastor. The priest calls the practice a relic of barbarism and says couples must wait eight for outdoor celebration.
W M Robb, a Morning Sun native and son of R G Robb, was ordained by the Iowa Presbytery of the Reformed Presbyterian church in Morning Sun. He, with seven ministers and five elders, will sail September for Tak Hing Chau, South China, to work under the Foreign Mission Board.

Berlin reports the death of Frau Frances Von Bredow, daughter of Senator Francis G Newlands of Nevada, after a prolonged illness.her passing was announced yesterday in the German capital.

George Bell, famed mail bag robber, is suspected by the Secret Service in the Burlington train heist between Denver and Omaha. Investigators traced a large package sent from east of Denver to Chicago, while Bell’s 3 year old Philadelphia escape and Omaha ties are cited as links. Police know Bell and his wife from prior arrest.
