A Muscatine reader responds to D A Willis defending the 1922 municipal light plant and denouncing private electric interests. He cites savings, cites the 1922 vote, insists city ownership benefits merchants and taxpayers, and urges support for the plant and its directors.
The fifth annual Whitmer family reunion was held in Wilton Iowa on Tuesday with 61 attendees. Officers elected for the coming year include President J F Whitmer and Vice President Cyril Whitmer. A 1926 reunion date was set for the Leaker grove, and a long list of attendees from multiple Whitmer branches across nearby towns attended the gathering. The note also references probate actions and upcoming court hearings in Muscatine County Iowa.
Wilton Iowa August 21. John Lau camp aged nine son of Mr and Mrs F W Laucamp narrowly escaped serious injury after falling 35 feet from a hay chute while bird hunting in a barn. He suffered deep cuts to left arm and foot and severe bruises but no bones were broken.
Local Red Men lodge and Pocahontas tribe members and families will gather at Smalley Grove south of the Muscatine ball park on September 7 Labor Day for the annual picnic. Clinton and Davenport lodges are invited. A noon dinner and free refreshments follow with likely races ballgames horseshoes and cards for entertainment. William Roby chairs the Red Men entertainment committee and Murray Figg chairs the Pocahontas program committee.
Sugar Creek Presbyterian church six miles northwest of Wilton Junction hosts a two day homecoming August 23 and 24 features include a sermon by Dr. J. F. Hinkhouse, address by Cedar Rapids attorney Dwight Krumholtz, Chicago tenor Fred Wise, Sunday school program, basket dinners, and reminiscences by local oldtimers plus Dr. A G Martin recounting pioneer tales.
In the September 1925 term of the Muscatine District Court a petition for an absolute divorce is filed by c L Bruner against Helen Thales Bruner on ground of desertion for over two years. The defendant is warned to appear by noon on the second day of the term or default will be entered and judgment rendered as prayed.
By order of the District Court of Iowa in Muscatine County the American Savings Bank of Muscatine as administrator of the estate of Adelaid Cook deceased will sell at public auction at 11:00 a.m. September 19 1925 at the south door of the Muscatine County Court House the east twelve feet of lot 4 and the west fifteen feet of lot 5 in block 72 in the City of Muscatine Iowa. Cash ten percent on sale day with balance on delivery of administrator's deed and title abstract showing good title in Adelaid Cook. Dated Muscatine Iowa August 1925.
