Scott T. Douglas, 82, was fatally injured when an automobile struck him while he crossed the street to buy flowers for his wife's bier. His wife, age 80, had died Saturday.

A. M. Gates of Mobile South Dakota broke 188 targets to finish second in class C of the Grand American trapshoot at Vandalla field. John Fiender Cedar Rapids Iowa and A L Boulware Springfield Illinois tied for second in class D with 190, Boulware winning the shoot off. Gus Olsen Mission Hills South Dakota was third with 182.
Parkersburg Iowa August 19 AP Clifford Heck 18 Webster City was killed when his car collided with a truck on a highway near Parkersburg. His passenger Genevieve Jensen Iowa Falls was injured and the truck driver Harry Kaler Sioux City was not injured.
President Hoover appoints Secretary Hyde as chair of the National Drought Relief Committee to coordinate federal aid with state groups. The agriculture department will cut freight rates on grain and watch applications to aid farmers, with about 300 counties in drought regions. Oklahoma forms a general relief committee and five subcommittees to aid around 25,000 affected residents.
George Bernard Shaw endorsed Dean Inge's idea that condemned murderers should be allowed to commit suicide before execution. He urged supplying poisons and a set date for hanging, saying a man who dies by his own hand saves trouble and expense.

Istanbul Aug 19 AP Persia informs Turkey it cannot consent to military cooperation against Kurds in Persian territory. A note delivered by the Persian charge d affaires signals the likely end of a two week note exchange. Foreign Minister and Interior Minister travel to the Sea of Marmara to confer with Mustafa Kemal.
Federal Prohibition Administrator George Golding of Albany New York is placed under indefinite suspension on charges of personal misconduct involving several stenographers. Director Woodcock noted the accusations arose from complaints by the women involved and said a thorough inquiry found them not to blame. Two other agents Robert F Myrtle of Milwaukee and Basil N Quinn of Washington were suspended five days each for incidents with motorists, Myrtle drawing a gun and Quinn striking a driver. Woodcock pledged stricter actions if abuses continue.
Pilot Bernard Rawson of Bay City safely landed a cabin monoplane at 3,000 feet after four passengers including Cleo Slagle and Florence Davis fought a midflight fire with extinguishers. The craft wrecked minutes after a gasoline explosion. all aboard escaped with minor scratches.

In Sioux City Virginia Aug 18 AP Eugene Noonan is recovering from a bullet wound after a masked robber robbed Roberts Dairy company of about 800 dollars yesterday evening He was wounded in the right leg as the bandit fired when Noonan did not move quickly Noonan said the bandit emerged from the building after the robbery Women were in the offices when the thief entered and threatened them with a gun while taking money from the cashier’s cage.
Eddie Schneider an 18 year old from Jersey City set a new junior record for the fastest westward US crossing. He completed the trip in 29 hours 41 minutes landing at Los Angeles Long Beach after a day time flight from New Jersey via New Mexico and Arizona with weather delays and a minor plane damage incident. He flew only in daylight, stopped for fuel and had a mistaken arrival at the wrong airport before reaching his intended destination.
Raul Hurt, 51, died in Salix after his car backfired igniting gasoline and exploding, sending the vehicle into a ditch two miles south of Salix, with his body reportedly burned. In La Port, W. W. Buck, 90, Civil War veteran and Benton county pioneer, died after a three week illness, last survivor of company G, Thirteenth Iowa. He leaves a daughter and two sons.
