Richard Heuer, two, son of Mr and Mrs Ernest Heuer of 401 Angle Street, drowned while playing in a yard adjoining Muscatine slough. Neighbors aided in recovery after screams alerted by his mother. Fire department attempted resuscitation for about 40 minutes with no success. Drowning marked second family tragedy in recent years. No inquest.

Rock Island Rail Merger Authorized by Interstate Commission
The Interstate Commerce Commission conditionally authorized the Chicago Rock Island and Pacific Railway and 11 subsidiaries to merge into a single corporation for ownership management and operation. Mrs. Anna Katherine Roth 73 of Muscatine died at 7 a m today at the home of her daughter Mrs Mary Katherine Pritchard after a 10 week illness. Born Sept 2 1859 in Hessen Cassel Germany she came to America in 1881 and lived in Chicago Old Mexico before moving to Muscatine in 1905. Surviving: four children, a sister and eight grandchildren. Burial arrangements pending.
