Republicans in Iowa Platform Convention Debate Abortion to Tax Reform
Delegates at the Iowa Republican State Convention in Des Moines spent 12 hours reviewing a 17 plank platform with 52 amendments. They favored reinstating abortion limits, adult rights at 18, taxing nonprofit insurers, and allowing gun ownership for "honest citizens" while opposing government daycare funding, eased work safety laws, marijuana penalties, and scrapping the liquor share. The platform also calls for less overlapping taxation, support for HMOs, a Vietnam veteran bonus, and restricting student activity fees for nonacademic or political uses.
