The Louisa County Fair hosted the Open Show with grand champion and reserve titles in Hereford and Angus classes awarded to producers from Conesville Muscatine Spencer and other towns. The 4H cattle sale raised 22408.85 dollars on 78430 pounds, average 922.7 pounds and 28.57 per hundredweight. Top lamb, pig and bull results listed with Oakville and Columbus Junction interests highlighted. Tennis title went to Ron Holmberg at Meadow Club Invitational over Gene Scott 64 1-6 6-3 13-11. Big Harvests Seen for Corn and Soybeans in Iowa
The USDA forecast near record corn and a record soybean harvest for Iowa despite drought in the southwest. Corn crop raised to 925,205,000 bushels from 895,988,000 with a yield of 92 to 95 bushels per acre, slightly below last year’s 930,155,000. Soybeans predicted at 716 million bushels with about 30 bushels per acre.
