U. S. Prepares to Bar Cholera From Ports
Cable reports from Vienna say cholera has appeared among Servian and Austrian troops prompting port precautions. Health officer Dr. Joseph O'Connell said inspectors will screen passengers arriving from Mediterranean ports France and England. The effort is directed by Dr. Oscar Teague of the quarantine bacteriological laboratory.

In a joint session of Louisa and Muscatine counties on Aug 3 1914 the boards approve R H and G A McWilliams to cut Muscatine Island Levee at Parkers Slough to allow no dredge passage after inspection and engineer assent. Replacement of levee to be made at no cost to the districts. Motion to reconsider passes with opposing votes from Wilson and Nelson.
