Japanese troops repelled a charge of Russian infantry and 40 Soviet tanks after heavy artillery shelling of Japanese lines near Yuki Korea on the Siberian frontier. The border front remained tense as Soviet forces bombarded Hill 52 and Chang Kufeng hill in disputed territory, with Japanese gunners replying and the ridge left scarred by shellfire.

The inquiry followed an overnight recess for Woodrow to recall the donor amid questions about a meeting in a Newton woods. Thirty five visitors attended the morning session, most wives of CIO Maytag employees.
W. Earl Hall of Mason City, president of the Iowa State Safety Council, defends a plan to install 290 automatic flashing signals at railroad grade crossings. The signals, approved by the state highway commission, await federal and railroad approval, with the highway commission purchasing and installing and the railroads maintaining them. Hall notes many sites were flagged by local safety councils and highlights cost advantages over grade separations, arguing 860000 dollars could protect many more crossings with flashers.

A fire swept the main assembly hall of Camp Mowglis at Newfound Lake New Hampshire trapping and fatally burning two staff members. Robert Blake 17 of Ardmore Pennsylvania and Richard Hooper 16 of Manchester Massachusetts were asleep inside and unable to escape. The two story wooden building was destroyed and the cause of the blaze remains undetermined.
Washington leaders plan a August 27 rally at Capehart farms near Washington Indiana with an expected crowd of 50 000. National figures including John Hamilton Sen Townsend and Rep Martin attend a pre rally meeting in Indianapolis August 26 to map strategy for Ohio West Virginia Kentucky Michigan Illinois Iowa Wisconsin Kansas Minnesota Missouri Oklahoma and South Dakota. Gov. Cochran led the Nebraska primary with an eight to one margin as 1,716 of 2,037 precincts reported. He held renomination solid, with 88,211 votes to his nearest opponent's 12,473 and all five incumbent congressmen projected to win third terms.

Senator James P. Pope conceded defeat in Idaho’s Democratic Senate primary to D. Worth Clark. With 631 of 802 precincts reporting, Clark led 38,776 to 35,629, signaling administration popularity problems and a close race. Pope, who telegraphed Clark to offer congratulations, pledged support to his principles.
Early returns show Senator Bulkley leading in Ohio with 441 788 votes to 184 434 for George White. Senator Caraway leads in Arkansas over Rep John L McClellan with 76 351 to 71 540 as Roosevelt backing shapes nominating prospects. Idaho results indicate Roosevelts influence remains an issue in renomination talks.
In Louisville Kentucky a 70785 vote Barkley majority defeated Chandler for the Democratic nomination. The total ballots cast reached 517643 marking a primary record.
Idaho’s Democratic primary pitted Sen. James P. Pope against Rep. D. Worth Clark with Clark winning 27,396 to 25,880 amid anti administration sentiment. Nebraskas contest lacked a Senate race as Gov. Cochran won renomination. Ohio saw Charles Sawyer defeat Gov. Davey for the Democratic nomination for governor. Arkansas and Idaho saw Bailey and Ross leading in their respective gubernatorial races.
