No Organized Movement to Secure Saloons in Muscatine
One year after the petition of consent was deemed insufficient by Judge J W Bollinger, residents wonder if a new petition to legalize saloons in Muscatine will circulate. No active movement is visible, former liquor dealers are gone or inactive, breweries won’t fund a new drive, and private sources may finance any effort if it resumes. Some talk exists of a society taking up the cause, but nothing definite has emerged. The one year interval allows a new petition per law, with last year’s filing dated July 13 and approval August 17. A cautious resident expects a consent petition to be circulated eventually.
