Wool Market Forecast Signals Little U.S. Gain
Washington AP reports the Agriculture Department sees little chance of improvement in the U.S. wool market this year with average prices near 39.3 cents a pound in 1967. Domestic wool production declines since 1961 continue while world supplies stay ample as mills raise output and imports grow. Mid July prices averaged 40.9 cents, below the 1968 government support price of 67 cents, with parity at 9.1 cents. U.S. 1968 production is estimated at 176 million pounds, about seven percent under 1967.
