Rehabilitation Helps Muscatine Man Begin New Career in Appliance Repair
Fred Owen of Muscatine, formerly a 15 year electrician at Riverside Foundries Bettendorf, suffered a severe heart attack in 1964. After rehabilitation he started a small appliance repair business in Muscatine on 116 W Second, funded by the Division of Rehabilitation Education and Services and an SBA loan. He now repairs small appliances and electrical shavers while his wife handles office work. Owen, 43, has reduced reliance on ADC and will soon no longer receive Social Security disability payments.
