Frost Hurts Fruit as Wet Ground Saves Blossoms

Severe frost last night caused damage to young fruit and vegetables in South Muscatine with asparagus and tender plants frozen on the island. Cherry and peach trees reportedly suffered, though exact losses will take days to assess, as warm sun reveals the impact on blossoms. Wet ground helped protect many plants by causing frost to settle on the soil rather than the trees. Local notes mention Miss Edna Rothe visiting, Mrs. J. E. Hoopes planning a trip to Ames, and locals George Newkirk and Oscar Williams visiting town.
