Imported Materials Are Much Cheaper
The Bureau of Commerce and Labor notes a March 1908 fall in prices for most manufacturers materials in imports. Prices for pig tin, raw silk, India rubber, hides, goatskins, Manila hemp, sisal, copper pig metals, and various wools decline from 1907 levels, while only a few items like cotton and tobacco rise. Despite lower values, quantities suggest smaller drops than total value implies.
