John Somers of Marble Rock Iowa collapsed and died of heart disease while waiting for a train at Grand Central depot in Chicago to depart for Paris. Waiting passengers found the body in the station.
Des Moines reports Senator S. H. Harper of Ottumwa plans to introduce a measure in the next Iowa General Assembly to establish a regular inebriate hospital at Knoxville. The facility would repurpose the former industrial home for the blind for treatment and care.

In St. Joseph Missouri on April 17 Charles May was hanged for the murder of Robert Martin following a quarrel at a dance. May had earlier been released from prison two months prior after serving a term for killing another man.
Henry Youtsey, a key witness in Jim Howard’s third trial for Goebel’s murder, testified that Governor Taylor distrusted a Black man to kill Goebel but would pardon the killer. He added that Taylor dictated a letter ordering Howard to report to Frankfort at once.
