Midvale civic boosters meet Friday at 6 30 p.m. at the U S Cafe to organize a Midvale expansion association for community benefit. The committee hopes all local business interests attend to determine the group’s structure and aims.
The editor gained a tour of the Midvale Drug Company moving into new quarters. A spacious main floor displays counters and a soda fountain with a modern drug store layout. The basement houses heating, coal, and a secured wholesale department with locked supply lines.
The regular Murray Lions luncheon on February 15 featured Howard and Murray High basketball team members. County Commissioners Hicker Labrima and Dahlyubst attended as Lions discussed progress, local projects, and city initiatives to benefit Murray. officers and members listed.
Funeral services were held in Ward Chapel for Jackie Walker oldest son of Mrs Clara Walker 15 years a Woodstock School pupil and beloved community member The service included prayers by Jacob Griffiths and Arthur Casper speakers Principal Moore Horace Godfrey James L James John A Berrett and Bishop Jesse Wheeler Burial was in Murray City cemetery The house was crowded with friends and relatives.
Arlington students perform the operetta Princess Chrysanthemum at Granite Stake House on March 4 at 8:15 PM. Leading roles include Dorothy Miller as Princess Chrysanthemum, Ina Lindblade as Fairy Moonbeam, and Sherman Morgan as Prince So-Tru, with a tale of a coming of age party, a magical rescue, and a cave adventure featuring Lancer-Ayes and the Wizard Cat.
Judge Morgan of the Juvenile court in Salt Lake City addressed the Lions Club of Midvale on the three greatest evils in American life the broken home the dope problem and illicit liquor. He calls divorce the greatest evil creating broken homes and helpless children. The address was timely and well delivered.
Murray High School shines with one of its best basketball squads this season. Captain Farmer Jones leads a strong lineup including Ed Thomas Hiley Campbell Bubs Hilton and Coach Bob Howard, as Murray falls 36 to 18 to Bingham Canyon before 2000 fans. Shober and Jones stand out in a spirited curtain-raiser as Murray’s reserves win 23 to 13.
Two children of Bishop and Mrs Heber J Burgon are ill with diphtheria but assessed as not serious. Under the Bishopric, the Union Ward schedules a benefit dance Saturday evening February 26 in the Union Amusement Hall to honor Mrs Clara Walker, tickets fifty cents a couple.
Paul Greenwood age 18 of Sandy and Jordan High School graduate receives a Union Pacific scholarship at Utah Agricultural College worth 100 dollars for boys farm project work announced by Vore L Martineau
Ephraim Bergeson former president of the Utah State Farm Bureau sees better agricultural prospects for 1927 than since 1920. He travels the state urging farmers to plant crops suited to local conditions and to market products in concentrated form including sugar beets poultry sheep hogs and cattle. He notes rising beet acreage as sentiment shifts and reports indicate ample moisture promising an abundant beet crop across northern Utah and likely statewide.
Miss Erma Pixton hosted a Wednesday evening at her East Midvale residence with a long list of attendees from Sandy Crescent Idaho and Bingham including Clifford Bartschi George Town Mayen Myers Wilow Booth and Grandale Finlayson. The gathering featured games and luncheon as the main activities.
Funeral services for Mary Gardner infant daughter of Mr and Mrs Leo Gardner were conducted Monday at 2 pm in West Jordan Chapel under Bishop Wm J Leak. Choir songs included Sometime we'll understand Jesus Wants Me For A Sunbeam and Beautiful Zion. Speakers were C I Goff Charles E Hogan and Bishop Leak with invocation by John C Richards and benediction by Henry Cooley. Interment followed in West Jordan Cemetery.
The son of D. E. Greenwood won a scholarship tied to an acre potato yield, as stated by Mr. Martineau.
Stanley J. Tracey, former editor of the Murray Eagle and ex-Bureau of Labor Statistics official, has joined private law practice in Salt Lake County. He lauds Murray City and the Eagle as a key advertising and civic force, noting expanded county news coverage and a circulation now reaching 2,500 homes with 10,000 readers.
A surprise party was held Sunday at the home of A E Nelson for Mrs Nelsons birthday anniversary. Relatives and friends attended with a sixty candle birthday cake as a focal point for the dinner table. Guests included Mr and Mrs Thomas Sheppick and daughters Della and Mary, Mr Albert Nevans of South Jordan, Mrs Austin Silcox, Mrs Annie Silcox, Mr and Mrs Dansie and daughter Clarele of Riverton, Mr and Mrs James F E Erickson of Salt Lake, Mr and Mrs William Erickson of Salt Lake, and Mr and Mrs Shirley Richardson.
