The Virras Public Library invites patrons to visit during Home Week to learn about summer seed planting, flower arrangements, and interior decorating ideas. The event highlights garden and floral tips, window draping, and furniture styling to aid spring cleaning and home improvement.
The Smith Hardware store, sole Winchester dealer for Murray area, built on the former Miller Carloon Hardware Dept. Its owner TL B Reff leverages 31 years in hardware, expanding amid Winchester Repeating Arms Co. growth with over 96 million invested in plant and 620 dealers. The shop offers a full hardware line plus Winchester firearms and new line products guaranteed "as good as the gun."
Mrs. Mary A. Cook of Taylorsville won the silver cup for the lady driver with the best mile per gallon in an official contest at Liberty Turk on April 2. She drove a 1930 Ford with a hot plate cooler, covering 124 miles on one gallon of gasoline at an average 15.00 miles per contestant. The event was organized by 12 Ford dealers in the district with judges including Geo Jay Martin and others from automotive publications and agencies.
Stewently, Mr. Smith and Mr. Stauffer, managers of the Conoco station at Vine and State streets, built an auto work house and creasing rack to meet Murray owners needs. The improvement promises a marked difference in appearance and care of automobiles passing through town.
