The Tokar fight description portrays Col Slith and Egyptian forces repelling Osman Digma’s dervishes. The battle ends with Egyptians recapturing villages, routing the enemy, and discovering bodies of sheiks executed for treachery.
Advices from Rangoon report sharp fighting between British forces and native Burmese rebels. Major Smythe's men captured Wuntho with little opposition while Okpho saw a decisive clash as Burmese rebels were routed. British casualties include three killed and ten wounded. a later assault near Kawline left 27 rebels dead and Capt. Hutchinson wounded.
London reports Cecil Rhodes premier and Sir Henry Loch commissioner conclude with Portugal a satisfactory agreement on border disputes. Portugal gains a large area north of Tete for prior occupancy while August’s convention remains. If Portugal refuses ratification England will warn that delay could push the British South Africa Company to extend its occupation.
Dusit February 2 Parnell said in a speech that a standing army miscalled a constabulary had been used by all English governments to suppress Ireland. He cited Mitchellstown and Belmullet as examples and warned Ireland would be governed with coercion unless concessions were obtained. He challenged McCarthy for better assurances.
Lonpox February 26 The cabinet debates the personnel of the labor commission ordered by parliament. The scope will cover nearly every branch of labor questions including strikes causes and remedies and the condition of the agricultural interest. Names considered for chairman include the Prince of Wales Lords Churchill and Derby and Sir John Gorst.
London reports Mr. O'Brien has been served with a debtor summons for 8500 in costs from his libel suit against Lord Salisbury in 1889. If he cannot show cause within three weeks why he should not be declared bankrupt for non payment, his parliamentary seat may be forfeited.
In Edinburgh court sessions Alexander Laing Brown Liberal MP for Harwich district seeks a divorce from his wife on grounds of adultery with a commercial traveler named Mac. Brown plans to resign his seat in Parliament.
F W Heath & Co advertise a large sum loan for a business land farmer. Five cents buys a heap of paper at the heart office 143t.
The resignation of Mr Brown will force a parliamentary contest on the Parnellites as they push their case before the court.
The steamer City of New York reports passing ten large icebergs during a voyage from New York to Queenstown. Heavy field ice forced a southward steer to avoid danger as the ship neared Ireland.
Loxpon Feb 26. If Parnell sends delegates to America they will represent his personal policy and funds collected will be under his control. He is urged by friends to dispatch such a delegation.
ViExna February 26. Two clergymen were devoured by wolves while sleigh riding near Mesvar. Two night watchmen of that city were also eaten by wolves.
In Loxpon on February 26, Prior Wotton and Company tim ber merchants of 77 Grace Church Street BC have failed. Their liabilities total about £390,000.
In Cleveland a school dispute between Headmaster Gottwald and Dean Wells escalated into a physical altercation after Wells attacked Gottwald in the City Hall studio. Gottwald struck back with a dumbbell before bystanders halted further harm, with further sensational developments anticipated.
Mason City reports a mob of ten men forced Harry George from his home in Clear Lake by revolver intimidation. They bound his neck with a rope and sent him by train with orders not to return, following an anonymous warning over his marriage to a young woman against her parents’ wishes.
The king of Italy conferred knighthood on Police Inspector Thomas F. Byrnes. The Italian consul received the parchment and gold cross, to be presented soon. The honor cites Byrnes’s help to Italians in New York and his role in thwarting brigands who fled Italy after serious crimes.
A severe February storm in California caused widespread damage on the river front with railway bridges swept away. Telegraph outages hampered news from surrounding areas and while rumors spread, only one authenticated tragedy is reported: Wells and his wife and child drowned near Wilmington.

Robert Gray junior and Charles McComb report a heavy silver vein unearthed on Grayson's farm along Silver Creek in Clark County Indiana. An ore sample in Chicago previously assayed as rich in silver, sparking considerable excitement in the area.
The body of Captain John Colcord of the Elizabeth was recovered near the wreck site. He vanished after the ship ran aground on the night of February 21 and was found with severe cuts and bruises, making identification difficult.
A gas explosion at 416 Second Street in Ashland destroys the front of a two story brick store used as a grocery by J A Pennebeck er. Pennebeck er and his wife were seriously hurt in the blast. In Mankato Minnesota five young men and three girls looted a house while the residents were away causing damage and loss of furniture and provisions.
La grippe has taken possession of Fort Logan, causing 80 soldiers in hospital and four deaths this week as Denver reports the outbreak among troops.

Washington reports the death of Senator Ephraim King Wilson of Maryland from heart failure at his hotel around 10 o clock Tuesday night. Born December 22 1821 at Snow Hill he served as Maryland delegate elector for Pierce and King and later in the Forty second Congress and the U S Senate beginning March 4 1885.
The direct tax bill to refund state and territorial wartime levies passed the House 172 to 101, with about twenty Democrats voting yes. It provides for repayment totaling about 7 million dollars including expenses, with New York 2,213,330 and Pennsylvania 1,654,711 allocated along with smaller sums to Ohio Illinois Indiana Michigan Wisconsin Minnesota Iowa and Kansas.
The house adopted a shipping bill as a special order for Thursday and Friday by a 139 to 118 vote. The immigration bill proceeded with the Oates substitute rejected, and the bill passed. Senators announced Senator Wilson’s death and adjourned for his funeral. Charles Foster’s commission as secretary of the treasury was signed and expected to take effect Thursday morning.
Private stables in Philadelphia drew a curious crowd to view two thoroughbred Shetland ponies formerly owned by Mrs O Shea. The ponies arrived from Glasgow after purchase in London and come with gold mounted harness and a Mrs O Shea monogram. A letter from Mrs O Shea provides their pedigree.
Epina Missouri February 26 A disastrous fire wiped out nearly all the town's business district causing about 100000 in losses. The blaze began in a frame building on the west side of the public square and spread to engulf the entire block. Major losers include J Lyon dry goods 25000 C J Brum Son general merchandise 15000 C M Brum Co grocers 7000 and J Bishop boots and shoes 7000.
In Nelsonville a boxing match between Dave Seville of Columbus and Tom Tracey of Toledo ended when Tracey cried he could not see. Seville delivered a fatal jaw blow that broke Tracey's neck. Seville and Tom Macey, a seconds aide, were arrested in Columbus.
Hamilton Ont Feb 2 Ex Provincial secretary Hon J M Gibson Liberal won a large majority in the Ontario legislature Tuesday. He had lost the last election to a Conservative who was unseated for corrupt practices. Liberals jubilant.
Waterloo Iowa February reports the Black Hawk county jail in the city destroyed by a Tuesday afternoon fire. Four prisoners were in cells and all were rescued. One inmate named Quirk reportedly attempted arson multiple times and is believed to have started the fire.
A shopper reports returning from New York with latent novelties suitings and pants goods bought at low prices as a spring fashion plate arrives.
About sixty bodies of Spring Hill colliery disaster victims were buried Tuesday in a solemn procession from the Methodist church to the cemetery. The village worked through bitter cold as graves were dug. 105 graves were prepared by evening with some remains yet to inter and many unidentified bodies awaiting burial.
In Lansing on February 26 the Michigan senate, short of Republican senators at the Jackson convention, unseated Morse and Horton by party vote and seated Friedlander and Morrow. Patrons of Industry members sided with Republicans but could not block the shift, triggering Republican indignation.
Jackson Mich Feb 26 The Republican state convention met Tuesday to nominate a judge. Judge R M Montgomery of Grand Rapids received the nomination on the second ballot. Resolutions urged a pure ballot force bill McKinley bill government purchase of all silver and issue of silver coin or silver certificates as legal tender.
The British ship Jesomene, after hitting Potato Patch, rode out near Point Reyes with anchors saving her. Dawn found her 200 feet from rocks, topmasts cut to ease strain, crew begged for a boat but the captain refused. On Monday the tug Relief towed her, $12,000 charged, vessel and cargo valued at $175,000.
In St Paul on Wednesday the Bjorge prohibitory constitutional amendment faced a committee report split. The majority of 7 lawmakers urged indefinite postponement, deeming it unnecessary and hard to enforce, while a minority of 4 supported passage. The majority report passed 59 to 40.
In Huntingdon Pennsylvania on February 26 Justice James Kelly sentenced a married couple after a trial. The wife must retire to her home and lock doors for six days while the husband boards with his best neighbor and sleeps in the barn. Each must pay half the costs and stay committed until the sentence is carried out. The couple had a conflict after the wife kissed another man and was punished by her husband.
The Kansas House passed Elder’s railroad bill 82 to 25 setting a 2¢ per mile maximum passenger rate. It makes railroad commissioners elective by voters and grants annual report powers to railroads, sleeping car, telegraph, and telephone firms. bans passes to non-employees except livestock shippers. Democrats and Republicans voted solidly against.
Walter Die, 17, was struck and killed by lightning while standing in his father's barnyard five miles south of Vandalia Missouri. He talked with bystanders after a heavy rain and wind storm had passed.
Springfield reports four ballots taken for United States senator by the Illinois legislature on Wednesday. Palmer received 101 votes with Republicans and F M B A men abstaining. The joint session adjourned for the day.
Courteny Forsyth shot and killed John Pickett at a Memphis race track after a lamp dispute. Both boys were white and employed in Bowen stable. Forsyten was arrested.

Miss Mary Linder, 15, died Friday in Indianapolis under extraordinary circumstances. Arteries yielded no blood when opened, electricity produced no response, and the skin’s color returned after pressure, prompting ongoing examination.
A cyclone swept along the Ohio river, narrowly missing Jeffersonville and striking Utica eight miles away. Utica’s town hall was demolished and ten homes blown down. Several residents were bruised or injured, but no deaths reported. the one story housing explains the lack of fatalities.
In Bloomington Indiana a disciplinary trial ended with the expulsion of Rev B F Arnold pastor of the colored Baptist church. Evidence showed immorality and a handwritten letter by Arnold aided the board action. Four other members were expelled as well.

Notable animals include Cicero's Tormentor 20228 a famed sire, Landseer’s Fancy descendants, and multiple cows and calves sold at $155 to $250 with six head totaling $1225 at a recent public sale. Next Jersey sale set for the third Tuesday in May 1891.
