The condition of two year old Mervin Garren of Red 5 remains serious after a car overturn on Centralia Road Tuesday night. He suffered a fractured vertebra and paralysis in his legs, treated at Good Samaritan Hospital.

Teen Dies of Burns from Gasoline Spark in Du Quoin
ST LOUIS Sept 30 Helen Roberts 17 died at St John's Hospital from burns suffered when she tried to light a coal stove with gasoline in her Du Quoin home on Sept 7. The accident occurred during attempts to start the stove with vapors.

Nelson joins Security Bank of Mt Vernon staff
Dwight L. Nelson, formerly of Urbana, is named assistant cashier at Security Bank of Mt. Vernon, reported by president Edward E. Curtis. He began duties September 21 after a career at Champaign County Bank and Trust in Urbana, plus Illinois College and University of Illinois banking study. He served in the Air Force during World War II, flying 49 missions in the Mediterranean Theater. Married with two children, the Nelsons bought the high school project house at 704 North 12th Street.

Girl Scout Leaders set a 6 30 p m pot luck supper October 3 at the Little House with field school leaders in charge of meat and others bringing covered dishes. Best Route To Fish Fry At Sportsmens Club
Mt Vernon area clubs officials outlined routes to the Mt Vernon Gun and Sportsmens Club seven miles north of Mt Vernon for a free public fish fry open Sunday afternoon. Drivers are advised East on State highway to Tolle Road then north to a large sign guiding to the club, with a left turn to the clubhouse about a mile north of the first north reservoir.
