Powers' Father Albert Powers Dies at 83 in Bloomfield
Albert Powers, a Vernon grocer and father of Marvin Powers, died last night at 9. He was 83. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2 PM at Brett Long Hill Church near Poplar Bluff. He is survived by four sons Marvin Jacob Aubrey and Ray and daughter Mrs Hattie Vandever of Poplar Bluff, plus 24 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.

In a Duluth Minnesota ore diggers dispute miners ended strike plans after steelworkers union talks in Middleton California reached a joint financing pension plan with non affiliated workers. The proposal would have the company contribute up to six cents an hour and the union extend contracts to April 30 1951 pending wage and pension terms.

Funeral services for Mrs. Mahala Evelyn Catron 81 of Wayne City were held Monday at the Church of God in Keenes. She leaves four daughters Lola Sadie Lillie Bernard Bessie and Carolyn and two sons Frank Elmer plus many grandchildren great grandchildren and a great great grandchild. Her first husband Lee Beardin died in 1899 and she later married Alexander Catron who died in May.

Two Men Enlist In Army Here
Two young men enlisted in the U S Army at the local recruiting station yesterday. Robert F Darnell 25 of Wayne City a World War II combat veteran enlisted as a sergeant for assignment to the 91st Cavalry Reconnaissance Squadron at Fort Riley Kansas where he will serve as a radio operator. He enlisted for three years. Darnell served overseas 32 months in the European Theater of Operations. Billy Bob Hood 18 of RFD 7 Mt Vernon enlisted for three years in the Regular Army and will be sent to Fort Riley Kansas for basic training. Hood a former member of Co M Mt Vernons National Guard unit attended summer maneuvers with the local guardsmen.
