Mt. Vernon resident Mrs. M. Simpson learns of her brother J. R. Nichols death in Birmingham Alabama at 11 a m Friday. He was 42 and uncle to Marjorie McGuire Sammie Simpson and Evelyn Scrivner. Funeral plans not announced.
Funeral services for Johnnie Keele are set for Sunday at 1 30 p m at Nell Walsh Barnes Funeral Home 1416 St Louis Avenue Elast Louis However the text misstates city and state names. Keele is noted as brother of Willis Keele of Bluford with Merlie Leuty Laverne Keele of Mount Vernon and Winnie MacDaniels of Bluford listed as survivors.
SAN FRANCISCO Two Boxer crewmen were punished and transferred from the aircraft carrier after an explosion ripped the hangar deck during the Korea War. Nine sailors were killed and sixty leaped overboard, later rescued. Captain Marshall Gurney said the two were judged careless at captain's mast for minor offenses. names were not released. The Boxer returned after its third Korean tour.
Decatur The Board of Directors of Illinois Power Company on September 25, 1952 declared quarterly dividends of 51 cents per share on the 4.08 percent cumulative preferred stock 53.5 cents on the 4.26 percent cumulative preferred stock 58.5 cents on the 4.70 percent cumulative preferred stock and 3 cents per share on the common stock. Dividends payable November 1, 1952 to stockholders of record October 10, 1952.
Boy Scouts Cub Scouts and Explorers of the Ambran Wabash Council cooperate with the National Council and the Freedoms Foundation in a regional campaign. Judge Caswell Crebs of Robinson chairs the Ambraw Wabash Area committee with 10 district chairs aiding. Clifford Fore heads the local effort. The first step, already underway, distributed 2300 posters urging people to register and vote across 12 counties and at crossroads stores. The second step, on Saturday November 1, has 2600 scouts placing Liberty Bell door knob hangars urging voters to vote as they think.
A 20000 suit filed in circuit court names Chester Marlan and Ronald White as plaintiffs against Henry Bartolomaccio. Each seeks 10000 for injuries from a collision at the south edge of Mt. Vernon on June 6. Plaintiffs allege Bartolomaccio was at fault and demand a jury trial. Hassakis and Ecker law firm represents the plaintiffs.
The Jefferson County Historical Society hosts a fall meeting Tuesday at 7 30 p m in the junior high school. Irvin Perthman of Southern Illinois University Museum will discuss Archeology of Southern Illinois with illustrated lecture. Adsmission is free.

Two accidents occurred in Mt Vernon yesterday and today including a hit and run. A collision at Tenth and Perkins involved a car driven by L B Tarr of Belle Rive and a taxicab driven by John DeSelms of 701 Casey at 3 40 p m yesterday. A hit and run struck a parked car owned by James Panton in the 1600 block of Broadway early today.
