Deaths Sam Wolfe Mendota

Sam Wolfe 79 of Mendota died recently. He was buried at Restland Memorial Gardens after services in Mendota. Born October 22, 1893 in Mt. Vernon, he was the son of Nathan and Margaret Wolfe. He married Eva Carr February 16, 1921. Surviving are two sons Robert and Kenneth in Earlville, daughter Lois Keller of Earlville, five grandchildren, one great grandchild, and sisters Agnes Root of St. Louis and Ella Carr of Mendota.

Agnes Maulding Dies at 70 in New York City

Miss Agnes Maulding 70 of New York City and formerly of Hamilton County died Monday at Hamilton Memorial Hospital McLeansboro. Funeral Thursday 2 p.m. at Gholson Funeral Chapel McLeansboro with Elder Bill Auxier officiating. Interment Crouch Cemetery north of McLeansboro. Friends may call 6 to 9 p.m. today. Born September 14, 1903 in Hamilton County. Survived by four brothers Val Carl Cyril of Evansville Indiana and Clarence of Mesa Arizona and a sister Mrs Madeline Varden of New York City.

Trial Underway In Strike Quieted Courthouse Here

Jefferson County Courthouse activities resumed with a jury trial after weeks of elevator construction noise and highway worker picket lines. Charlotte Richards, 19, of Mt Vernon, testified she robbed James Stevens’s home last May 3 under duress, claiming she was told to commit the crime or face eviction. no verdict reported.

Mt Vernon quoted soybeans at 6.35, wheat 4.75, corn 2.35. Hog prices ranged 41.50 to 42.00 for 200-230 lb. sows 34.00 to 36.50. cattle and sheep receipts noted. Chicago market showed No 2 soft red wheat 5.13, No 2 hard red 4.92 and No 2 yellow corn 2.62. A Fun Day For The Retailers 100 Frolic In The Sun At Mt. V

The Mt Vernon area hosted All Sports Day at Indian Hills Country Club with about 100 participants, including men and women, enjoying golf, horseshoes, archery and a tug of war. The event, staged by King City Retailers Association and partners, featured contests, awards, and a pig roast dinner. A TV crew from WSTU Carbondale filmed portions for October air, while WMIX covered the event locally. Winners included Iva Smith and Gene Petit in golf, Russell Withers in shooting, and a frog race won by Excuse My Dust, with judges and local merchants providing prizes and trophies.

Rend Lake road to be named Kenneth J. Gray Boulevard

Rend Lake Association passed a resolution to rename the road from I-57 interchange at Ina to Rend Lake College Kenneth J. Gray Boulevard. County highway superintendent Jack Trotter says the county has naming rights for the county road. Rend Lake official Charles Ijames spoke on lake improvements, including bath houses restrooms campsites and new shelters, with a 1975 outlook for Rend Lake as a top fishing area. Earl D. Police report two revolvers a .22 and .38 cal and $300 to $400 in change taken from Opal's. an adding machine and a company credit card were stolen from G and H.
