Funeral services were held at the Christian church in Sesser yesterday afternoon for Claude Scott Williamson who died at 3 00 am Sunday at his home in Sesser He was 67 years seven months and 22 days old Born February 2 1883 in Howard county Indiana He was first married to Grace Bowersox who preceded him in death June 13 1945 He was later married to Frances Neuhouser who survives He is survived by his wife two sons W Williamson and Merle Williamson of Mt Vernon and three grandchildren
Mr and Mrs John Winthrop of Elkville and Mrs Kate Gilliam of Du Quoin visited with sister Mrs Ollie Dudley and other relatives. Beulah Pitchford at Jefferson Memorial Hospital improving. Charles Sargent and son Michael of Mr Vernon spent time with her parents. Donald Peterson and son shopped in Mr Vernon. Mervin Moss family and Tom Moss of Belvidere visited Lawrence Moss. Joseph Fico Katherine Risi and Joseph Stella attended James Guglielmi funeral in Logan. Stella Jr returned to Champaign to resume studies at the University of Illinois. Jack Martin Beverly Martin Barbara Reynolds Louis Cheli watched Mr Vernon Rams vs Benton. Andrew Wands of Springfield with their son Thomas Wands visited last week. ogee Fosetti at Samaritan Hospital improving nicely. Mrs John Bicanich and Joseph Picanich visited relatives in Chicago and Michigan. R Rabacchi and Joe Fico were business visitors in Mt Vernon on Tuesday.
Miss Marian Morgan became the bride of William J. Slivka on Thursday September 7 in the South Hickory Hill Christian church. The ceremony was performed by Rev. Leonard Lon aeal ae W Stevenson with guests, relatives, and a reception at the bride's home. The couple, both longtime Mt. Vernon area residents, will reside at 715 Main street after a Michigan honeymoon.
John R. O'Brien says General MacArthur approved the Marine Corps League offer to send an extra daily can of beer to every American fighting in Korea. The beer is in addition to the free daily can for combat men. MacArthur asked delivery at the San Francisco port of embarkation.
Nathan Eugene Turner retired minister died at 6 45 p m yesterday at his home in Dodds township aged 80 years nine months and 15 days. Funeral set for Thursday 2 00 p m at Myers Chapel with Rev Joe Harmon officiating. Burial in Hopewell cemetery. Born December 10 1869 in Wayne county to William and Polly Turner. Survived by his wife Brunette Ray Turner two sons Dana and Orval Turner two daughters Mary Bailey Grace Graziani nine grandchildren eight great grandchildren and brothers Chris and William Turner.
Mt Vernon police officers captured a stray pony running loose in downtown near North and Tenth Streets. The animal was tied on a lot near city hall and was claimed by its owner.

The Wesleyan Service Guild of Epworth Methodist Church met in the church basement for a pot-luck supper and a regular meeting. Members turned in thread supplies and Christmas gifts destined for Seward Alaska and voted to support a Christian worker as a missionary project. Jennie Ruth Estes led the lesson on Health Through a Brotherhood of Nations with scripture from Matthew, and Eloise Wall spoke on Deaconess duties. Lois Culli led closing prayer. Next meeting is October 16.

Ottawa Justice of the Peace George T Koenig introduces a dollar-per-mile excess fine system. Eugene Williams of Streator, a truck operator, became the first fined for 17 mph over the 25 mph limit after allegedly traveling 42 mph. Police charged the offense and Koenig set the amount at 17 dollars plus costs.
Mrs. Claude Burns of Woodlawn reports the death of her sister Mrs. Onie Farthing 63 in Burbank California. Farthing died September 23 at the home of her son Ray in Burbank. A former resident of the area she will be remembered by many friends and relatives here.
Dr. Clarence Hamilton reported to police yesterday that a .38 calibre pistol was stolen from the glove compartment of his automobile.

A British Army spokesman said 21 men were killed and 20 wounded when American planes bombed the British 27th Brigade by mistake on Saturday near Tokyo. The incident is described as an error in aerial attack during ongoing hostilities.

SAN FRANCISCO Sept 26 The first Japanese ship to visit the city in nine years arrived yesterday aboard the 10,000 ton freighter Biroku Maru. The vessel carries 53 Japanese crewmen who will load 10,000 tons of barley and other grains for shipment to Japan.
Funeral services for Raymond R. Pickett set for 2 30 p m Wednesday at Wesley Methodist Church officiated by Rev O E Connett. He died Sunday at his home 905 Lamar Avenue from a shotgun wound in the chest. A coroner s jury ruled death from a gunshot wound of unknown origin.
No injuries reported after a car driven by Ernest H. Solomon of Helleville and a truck driven by Cephas Tucker of 421 Forrest collided at the 19th and Broadway intersection at 6:45 p.m. yesterday.
Michael Casey, two, of 8221 South Tenth Street, sustained minor head injuries at 7:40 a.m. when struck by a car at Tenth and Conger. Driver Richard A. Green of 325 South Tenth Street conducted. Michael received treatment at Jefferson Memorial Hospital and was discharged.
