The Illinois Health Messenger reports on Mt. Vernon State Tuberculosis Sanatorium’s first year. Since May 18, 1951 dedication, 215 inpatients and 186 outpatients treated. 165 of inpatients were at advanced stages. Of 118 discharged, 39 arrested, 39 unimproved, 10 deaths. half left against medical advice.

Two Youths Plead Guilty In Train Wreck Plot
In Danville Illinois district court two Effingham Illinois youths Charles Fredrick Miller 21 and Conrad H Rentfrew 18 pleaded guilty to intent to derail or wreck a train. They admitted placing 200 stolen dynamite caps on Illinois Central tracks August 10. A second train later exploded 1400 caps on another track. Sentencing was deferred to October 10 by Judge Casper Platt.
