Mt. Vernon dies at 58 with services set at Hughey-Pulley Funeral Home. He retired after 35 years with Illinois Central Railroad and was a WWII Army veteran. He is survived by his widow Delores, mother, two daughters, a son and a brother, with Masonic and church affiliations noted. Burial at Mt. Vernon Memorial Gardens.
Robert Baker 53 a farmer of Route 1 Texico died Wednesday at Good Samaritan Hospital He was born November 9 1922 the son of Eugene S and Lena Belinda Baker He served in World War II and helped on the Jefferson County Soil and Water Conservation District board Funeral services will be held Friday at 2 p m at Osborn Funeral Home Dix Rev Clyde Funkhouser officiating Burial will be in Bethel Memorial Cemetery He is survived by two brothers Harold E Baker St Paul Minnesota and Donald W Baker Kenosha Wisconsin three sisters Margaret Dare Texico Phyllis Dykes Vernon and Lucy Baker Texico seven nieces and one nephew He was preceded in death by his parents
Lois Beaty 46 of Johnston City died Wednesday afternoon at Marion Memorial Hospital. Former Ina resident punched press operator at Norge plant Herrin. Services 1 p.m. Saturday at Ina Funeral Home with burial in Kirk Cemetery. Visitation after 5 p.m. Friday. Born May 27, 1930, daughter of Theodore and Mary Beaty. Survived by father Theodore Beaty of Ina, brothers George L. Beaty of Pekin and Bill Beaty of Shreveport, five sisters Doris Jean Carroll Linda Beaty Mary Lou Clark Katy Johnson Shirley Wilson. Preceded by mother and a brother.

Hamilton County clerk Lovella Craddock announced extended voting registration hours. The office stays open until 8 p.m. on September 24 and October 1, and from 8 a.m. to noon on October 2. The final registration day is October 5.
At the Marion federal penitentiary a inmate named Raymond C. Beckley aged 49 who was serving a 25 year term for sea murder was fatally stabbed Wednesday night. He listed Houston Texas as his home and no other details were released.
