Ocie E. Yarbrough, 58, of 805 S. 22nd St., died this morning at Barnes Hospital Complex. Funeral arrangements were incomplete at Hughey-Pulley Funeral Home this morning.
Obituary for Mattie Robinson Affalter of Louisville Colorado aged 101 highlights birth in Old Williamsburg on Oct 30 1875 to Isaac W and Lavina Robinson pioneer teachers in Waltonville area. She taught in Jefferson County before moving west. Survived by three daughters in Colorado and nephew Brig Gen Paul J Robinson Ret MD of Montgomery Alabama. husband Edward Affalter preceded.
Warren L. San Shaw of Walnut Hill died Tuesday at St Marys Hospital Centralia after a brief illness. Funeral services set for Thursday at 1 30 p.m. at Laver Funeral Home Centralia with Rev Morris J Catron presiding. Masonic rites at 8 p.m. at Dix performed by Rome Lodge 721 A F and A M. Burial Hillcrest Memorial Park Centralia. Surviving are wife Ruth Tel ford two sons Gerald Lee Jerry Shaw and John David Shaw a daughter Mrs James L Sue Paul a brother Louie E Shaw six grandchildren and one grandchild preceded in death by one brother and one grandchild. He was a retired Illinois Power Co employee.
Cloyd M Glass 80 of Route 1 McLeansboro died Tuesday at Hamilton Memorial Hospital. Services set Friday at 2 pm at Gholson Funeral Chapel with Rev Carroll Phillips. burial in Antioch Cemetery. Survived by Nellie Reeves, three sons Eugene John Vernon and Lucille Smith daughter, eight grandchildren five great grandchildren and many siblings. Bluford Community Raritans host their seventh annual chicken barbecue and fun day at the Bluford Fire Station on Saturday September 25 with events from 12:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. including garden tractor pull pony pull water fight and games. In case of rain the singing moves to Bluford Grade School.
STAUNTON, Ill AP Work is under way on a 575000 state project to reclaim land around an abandoned coal mine in Macoupin County. Gov Daniel Walker said it is the nation s first state funded shaft mine reclamation project. Acid runoff from mine wastes had destroyed vegetation and polluted streams. Project includes regrading, chemical treatment, topsoil, fertilizing and planting. Completion is planned by year s end.
The Joel Pace Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will honor 14 Revolutionary War soldiers buried in Jefferson County by placing a memorial plaque in the county courthouse corridor. The plaque lists Nathaniel Anderus, Thomas Badgett, Asa Bateman, Daniel Chandler, Francis Haney, Samuel Little, B N Maxey, Joseph McMeen, John Murphy, Peter Owen, Joel Pace, William Tong, Loyd Ward and Thomas Williams.

Texas-Pacific Oil Co. capped a 14974 foot well near Harrisburg after a $1.25 million effort yielded no oil or gas. Regional geologist Robert Richter called the hole clean with no show. A prior attempt near Vienna also ended dry at 14270 feet, costing about $1.25 million.

Mt Vernon Township High School moves toward construction, approving 75 percent drawings for a new Career Education Center. A special session will review plans with architects as bid dates of October 22 and 29 are set, while personnel changes and staff hires are noted.
Jerry Dodson, 22, of Route 1 Dix, pleaded guilty in circuit court to a felony theft charge for taking a tractor and backhoe from Rome Township on March 18. Judge Barry Ziegler set a pre-sentencing hearing for Oct. 21, making the jury trial unnecessary.

A full length comedy drama will be shown at First Baptist Church of Bluford at 7:30 p.m. Sunday. The public is invited and admission is free. Filmed in Denver and the Colorado Rockies, it tells of Pete Harper a service station owner who faces unexpected problems but finds strength to stand up again.
A county housing agency faces pressure over concealing the sixth traveler on a Washington trip. Officials including Commissioner David Loar are cited as resisting disclosure. Chamber members and the Governmental Affairs Committee accuse the agency of secrecy and misuse of taxpayer funds. The identified travelers include Mrs. Dorothy, Id Williams, John Kendrick, Harold Shields, and Peggy Huff, with the sixth investigator unnamed.
Twenty eight roller skaters at the Mt. Vernon Roll-A-Rama raised 1832.20 for MDA. The 12 hour skateathon ran 9 p.m. Sunday to 9 a.m. Monday and featured sponsors from Mt. Vernon and nearby towns. Bonanza Roll-A-Rama owners Don and Dottie Miller joined at the finish with fourteen youth skaters. Prizes came from locals including a free pair of roller skates donated by Charlotte Warren. Hamburgers fries and cokes were provided by Hardee’s with McDonald’s supplying breakfast.
Kevin Page, 21, pleaded guilty in circuit court Tuesday to a felony forgery charge. Judge Harry Ziegler set sentencing for Oct. 21. Page is serving a prison term from Franklin County for a felony theft conviction, sentenced Feb. 2 to two to six years. He allegedly forged the name of Dexter Turner on a $25.50 check dated Sept. 24, 1975, to IGA West.
The Jefferson County Interfaith and Fellowship Organization schedules its second annual program on Saree Sept. 26 at Pavey Chapel corner of 12th and Newby Streets. All interested persons from all churches are invited to attend an interesting program with refreshments served.
