Belle Rive visitors J and Mrs Sturman attended the Antique and Hobby Show at the Armory and celebrated Mrs Sturman’s birthday at the city park. Several families, including Mitchells from Champaign and Bevises on Ashley road, shared weekend visits, while others traveled for business and Navy enlistments.

Corine Scott and Marvin Peterson wed in a 3 pm informal ceremony at Father James Burke’s residence with 25 guests. Peterson, a Milwaukee native and WWII veteran, works as a steamfitter, while the bride, a Stadium Theatre secretary, will reside at 317 South 9th Street. Out-of-town guests included Phillip Peterson, Sadie Hawkins, and others.
The Census Bureau reports 37 largest U.S. cities had combined outlays of 3.049 billion and general revenue of 2.714 billion in 1949, creating a deficit of 335.28 million. Expenditures rose 10 percent from 1948 while revenue grew 6 percent.

Forreston Illinois prepares for the Sauerkraut Festival Day with an open house event Thursday expecting 35000 guests. Since 1913 the festival attracts visitors to a town of 1000 as merchants donate 6000 pounds of sauerkraut 2000 pounds of wieners and 500 gallons of coffee prepared for all.

Elizabeth Desch 94 of Sims died at Memorial Hospital in Fairfield at 3 p m yesterday. Funeral services are set for Wednesday at 2 p m at Sims Christian church conducted by Rev Oakley Miller. A stable fire at the Sunset Riding Academy in Leyden township near Chicago kills forty five horses with only two of 47 animals escaping. Police report the blaze was started by lightning.
Mt. Vernon students submitted posters for National Employ the Physically Handicapped Week. Prizes totaling 825 were donated by Gold Strine Chanter of the Disabled American Veterans in Mt. Vernon. Senior division prizes were 750 83.50 and 82.50. Junior division prizes were 550 83.50 and 82.50. First through fifth place named with addresses. Judges included Mrs. Elmer Snodsmith and others. Statewide winners receive scholarships, bands, and medals from the Illinois DAV.
An infant son of Mr and Mrs Allan Quinn of 1101 South 21st Street was born dead at 11 am yesterday at Jefferson County Memorial Hospital. Anna E Maddox 85 of Woodlawn died at 4 a m today after a three year illness. She lived on the same farm her entire life, born in Jefferson County September 15 1865 to James and Margaret Woods. She married Abraham L Maddox in 1884 in Mt Vernon. Surviving are her husband three sons James Centralia Paul Woodlawn Phillip Centralia four daughters Mabel Lee Mt Vernon Bessie Dycus Macomb Sadie Ott Centra lia Helen Pfeffer Centralia 22 grandchildren and 23 great grandchildren. Jefferson County struggles to meet wartime blood needs as the regional Red Cross reports ten chapters on the Honor Roll for meeting or exceeding quotas. Only two chapters hit the 108 pint Jefferson County target. the region’s best day yielded 213 pints at Granite City depot last August. a Bloodmobile visit is planned for September 29 at Webber Township High School in Bruford from 1 to 5 pm with donor contact details at the Red Cross office.
