Elvis Clevenger of Peoria Dies at 84

Elvis Clevenger 84 of Peoria died Saturday afternoon at Methodist Hospital Peoria. He was a former Wayne City resident. Services set for 11 a.m. Tuesday at Richardson Chapel Wayne City with burial in Garrison Cemetery. Born August 8 1889 in Hamilton County he married Owen Ruth Hutchcraft October 20 1910. she died in 1938. Survived by son Sessel of Grasse Point Park Michigan three daughters Juanita Troutt Lois Trammel and Mary Drury 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren.

Six weekend fires taxed Mt.V. County and Jefferson Fire Protection District crews. A church on 5th Street suffered heavy damage including the auditorium and floor after a blaze began Sunday morning. additional incidents included a burned car near Route 57, a trailer wiring fire, a hay fire, a wiring fire in Ina, and a tree stump burn in town.

Five Hurt In Area Accidents Over Weekend

A 19 year old Mt Vernon man fractured a leg in a two car crash Sunday at the 15th and Harrison Streets intersection. Gerald Gallina, 31, of 4 Sunset Drive, drove the other car. Bailey was taken to Good Samaritan Hospital in fair condition. No stop signs existed at that intersection. Saturday a car driven by Terry Conner, 16, of Ina and a pickup driven by William Loyd Blackwell, 29, of Ina, collided on Route 37. Blackwell’s two passengers Tim Lewis and Gary Edmison, both 24, were treated for minor injuries and released. Conner was cited for alleged failure to yield right of way.

The Mt. Vernon City Council meets tonight to consider raising water deposit requirements to curb bill defaults from residents who move away. Thieves In MT V Morning Burglary Chase Ends With Car Break

Police chase begins when a thief carries a stolen bicycle from the 2500 block to the 2700 block of College Street at 12 40 a m. The bike is returned to the owner who reported the theft. At 3 50 a m Sunday Captain Dale Farley pursues two suspects after his patrol car dies near Ford National Auto Supply on Casey Avenue. They flee toward Jordan Street and vanish.
