They will travel to Houston for detailed discussions with experts and family reunions. They flew from Guam and landed near the carrier two miles from the ship after a record setting voyage. The debriefings will emphasize Gordon s workload during a space walk and may address outside the ship operations. The mission set seven in space records including an altitude of 850 miles and an Agena rendezvous and 100 foot tethered link. Officials began releasing mission photos from the voyage.

Fire heavily damaged a four room house and contents east of Mt. Vernon early today. Rural firefighters were dispatched at 4:45 a.m. to Gene Johnson’s Fairfield Road home about two and a half miles east. A bed room and kitchen burned as the one story frame structure suffered extensive damage with smoke and water. A mattress was initially reported burning and smoke later re-emerged from the site.

Junk Thieves Cut Mile of Copper Telephone Line
Jefferson county officers investigate the theft of about a mile of non insulated copper telephone line in the Belle Rive area. An Illinois Power Co. workman interrupted the thieves who fled in a vehicle leaving behind copper wire neatly rolled. The stolen line would weigh around 650 pounds in total, suggesting junk metal motives.
