Auto Crashes Reported City and County Yesterday

Three major traffic accidents were logged in the city and county. Notable collisions involved Calvin S. Kirk and George S. Smith on 22nd Street. William R. Smith and Barbara A. Kettler collided on Main Street. Charles O. Patterson and Larry J Ellis were in a Route Liebengood incident with major damage to the car and minor truck damage. Two cows were killed when a car hit them on campground road near Old Route 15. Rebecca J. Rollinson struck the cows, killing both. Three sheriff’s cars responded to a Grand Prairie school break in, finding entry by broken front door glass and no inventory yet.

Two Men Arrested After Break-In at Centralia Doctor’s Office

Police arrested Danny Lee Swartz and Franklin A. Flanigan after a reported break-in at the office of Dr. Percy C. May in Centralia. Officers found the pair in the office bathroom as three officers responded to the anonymous tip. the office had been ransacked and two windows broken.

Red Cross Offers Advanced First Aid Course

The local Red Cross chapter will run a 48 hour advanced First Aid course starting Tuesday at 226 S. 10th St. Classes meet 7 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays. A standard first aid certificate is the prerequisite. There is no charge.

Marion Man Pleads Guilty in Death of Wife

James Flower, 49, of Herrin, pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter in the June 26, 1969 death of his wife Leatha and was sentenced to four years to four years nine months in prison by Judge W A Lewis. He received credit for time already served and had previously been charged with murder. Flower related details of the shooting at the Olin Corp. plant parking lot after his wife faced a pending divorce suit.
