In Waukegan Illinois on September 14 a young Army wife unable to care for her nine month old son Lester Jr. placed him for private adoption. Shirley Weinman 18 listed her husband in Korea and poor health as reasons. Charles Pitts and his wife, visiting in a hotel room, took the child to adopt him. Mrs Weinman said her husband consented to the placement. The adoption followed her newspaper ad and a flurry of phone calls.

Scott Field Air Show Planned for Air Force Day
Scott Air Force Base Illinois will host an open house on Saturday September 18 from 10:00 am to 5:00 pm with a large air show and technical exhibits including a mobile radio station maintenance demonstrations and static displays of engines and military aircraft. The event marks Air Force Day and features a 4527 mile non stop B 29 bomber flight from Azores to Scott AFB with noon landing. A guard mount and retreat parade close the day with films bands and other entertainment.

Mrs. Belle Howard of Kell died at 4:30 a m in the Quinn Nursing Home at age 85 years two months and 27 days. Funeral services are set for Thursday at 2:00 p m at Osborn Funeral Home Dix with burial in Jordan's Chapel cemetery. She was born July 6 1865 in Mt Vernon to Samuel and Martha Champion and survived by three daughters Della Meador Ir Ashworth and Lola Wise, two sons Ira and Orville Howard, and a daughter Minnie Keele. she was preceded in death by a husband John Howard and two sons.
