A five foot chicken snake crawled into Mt Vernon and was killed at the intersection of 12th Street and Oakland Avenue. Merle Williamson, rabies control officer, said the length and girth were 5 feet and about 3 inches. The dead snake drew excitement from schoolchildren as it reportedly was struck by a car. Williamson hauled it away for disposal.
