Yesterday was the busiest day in 15 years for Circuit Clerk Harley V. Warren and his staff as they filed cases and recorded oil and gas leases deeds and mortgages. The day’s fees totaled more than $200.
A bouquet on display at The Register-News office showcases dahlias grown by Elzie Morgan of Woodlawn. The arrangement includes five of Morgan’s twelve varieties, with blooms from 6 inches to 12 inches across in colors white yellow red and bronze.
Mrs. May Smith of RFD 4 told the sheriff that a new dress and new undergarments were stolen from her rural home while she visited a neighbor on Thursday. County officers are investigating the theft.

Three minor accidents occurred in Mt. Vernon yesterday. At 7:05 p.m. Louise Bolerjack drove from 111 South Sixth and Walter Clausell from 717 Herbert collided at Tenth and Main. At 7:20 p.m. Maurice A. Shehorn of Fairfield Road and Frank Huston of RFD 6 collided at Tenth and Broadway. A city bus backed into a parked car owned by Lillian E. Herbert on Newby Avenue 1000 block at 3:40 p.m.
Second Lt. Barney Myers of Mt. Vernon was named honor graduate of the Associate Company Officers course at the Provost Marshal General's school Camp Gordon Georgia. He earned the highest scholastic average, received an honor certificate and a commendation from Col. J P Holland for his enthusiasm and diligence. He and his wife Barbara and son W B III left for Camp Cook California after a delay in Mt. Vernon. he is the son of Mrs W B Myers Sr.
Della Hayes and Steve Hayes sue Louis Vastaldi operating Gables Tavern and Elton B Storey Breen Greer operating Curve Inn Tavern for 32 000 alleging Steve Everett Hayes killed in a crash south of Centralia after drinking at the two taverns on September 16 1951. Della seeks 15000 and Steve 1000 for funeral expenses. jury trial requested. Dowell and Dowell represents plaintiffs.
A Rome Chapter 1014 Eastern Star meeting at the Masonic Temple Dix on Monday September 15 at 8 pm features Ruth K Throgmorton Illinois senior guest. Mt Vernon Shrine No 66 W S of J holds a ceremonial meeting September 16 at 7 30 pm led by Walstina Ayers and Nell Kell with guests.

Fire destroyed a large dairy barn and 2000 bales of hay on Alice Phoebs farm three miles southwest of Teutopolis. Firefighters from Teutopolis Effingham and Dietreich battled the blaze late Friday. Spontaneous combustion was blamed. the loss runs into thousands of dollars though other buildings and stock were saved.
Lynn Robinson aged 18 of Buffalo Hart Illinois died from polio at St John’s Hospital Springfield after ten days as a patient. He was a sophomore at the University of Illinois and his death was reported Friday night.
Seven year old Andrea Marlow daughter of Mr and Mrs Andy Marlow of 326 Main street was bitten on the left leg by a neighborhood dog yesterday afternoon. She received medical treatment from a physician.
Five buildings in the business district of an Eastern Oklahoma town sustained damage on Friday as a fire threatened the entire business area. Fire crews battled the blaze, quickly containing it after it spread among several structures. No injuries were immediately reported.
Mr and Mrs Omer Colclasure of 1505 Jones Street in Mr Vernon welcomed an eight pound four ounce baby boy born at Good Samaritan Hospital at 8 24 p m yesterday.
