Two minor automobile accidents were reported to Mt. Vernon police headquarters yesterday. Boy Bitten by Squirrel In Mt. Vernon
Allen Ledbetter a 12 year old of 300 South 17th Street was bitten by a squirrel. The animal was captured and placed in the basement. Police euthanized the squirrel and said it would be sent to the state laboratory in Centralia for rabies testing.

Fire Destroys Empty House in Hoits Addition
A three room empty house in Hoits addition on the southeastern edge of Mt. Vernon was gutted by fire at 9:15 last night. Cause unknown, interior completely burned. The house belonged to Orville Pulley, former Mt. Vernon resident now in St. Louis, employed at the Wagner Electric plant. Earlier, at 2:20 pm, rural firemen controlled a rubbish fire at Kenneth Highsmith’s home on state route 15 east of Camp Ground.

Trail Riders to Arrive in Mt Vernon Sunday Parade
Trail riders who left Springfield Tuesday head for Mt Vernon to stage a Western Horse Show this Sunday at the Fairgrounds. The group dwindled to 22 riders after a marathon trek, with many dropping out along the way. Mt Vernon Jaycees sponsor the event and will meet the riders at 2 PM tomorrow at the city edge for the parade into town. Injured Young Man Puzzle for Jefferson County Officers
