Deaths John Cockrum 23 killed in tractor accident
Funeral services for John Seymour Cockrum of Sesser will be held at 3 00 p.m. Saturday at the Baptist church in Sesser with Rev. Bill Christoff officiating. Burial will be in Maple Hill cemetery with American Legion and VFW honors. He died when a brush hog mower pulled the tractor over him on Harvey Gardner’s east of Carbondale farm. Cockrum, born May 1 1941 in Herrin, served four years in the U S Navy. He is survived by his parents, two sisters and two grandmothers. He planned to live near Carbondale while attending Southern University.

Mrs Ida Bond Osborne, native of Mt Vernon and longtime high school teacher, died August 29 at her sister-in-law's Oak Park Illinois home. Services were held September 1 at the Episcopal church in Oak Park. Born in Mt Vernon, she taught locally from 1905 to 1923 before teaching in Chicago. She was married to James Osborne, Oklahoma's state superintendent of public instruction, who preceded her in death.
