Heavy rains broke a two year Texas drought as floods isolated towns in South Central areas. Fredericksburg Kerrville and Llano saw significant damage with dams breaking and at least three deaths reported. Brady reported heavy rainfall and volunteers sandbagged downtown areas while Beeville and nearby districts faced slick roads and accidents.

Premier Tito told Norwegian reporters he is convinced the Soviets are not planning an attack on Yugoslavia in the near future. He warned if it occurs it could trigger World War III and said Yugoslavia would resist with a ready, un bluffable people. Two Hit and Run Driving Cases Reported
Two hit and run driving cases were reported to Mt. Vernon police yesterday. Forrest Atchison said a man in a blue 1941 Plymouth struck his car at 12th and Broadway and fled. Minor damage was caused. William Lee reported his car on Perkins Street was struck by an unknown driver in the 1000 block of Tenth Street.

Truman to campaign west aboard party train soon
President Truman said his Western whistle stop program remains in draft and will follow the Democratic National Committee direction. Illinois gamblers pay taxes on nine month total
The Internal Revenue Bureau reports Illinois gamblers handled 12,297,360 in gambling deals from Nov 1 to July 31, taxing at 10 percent. In July alone taxes totaled 195,821 with 159,551 from 26 Northern Illinois counties and 36,270 from 76 downstate counties. Since the law's start, Illinois gambling tax revenue reached 1,229,736. June figures show 198,892 for Northern Illinois and 46,575 for downstate.

Mass burial for 27 unidentified WWII airmen at Jefferson Barracks
Twenty seven unidentified soldiers from World War II were laid to rest at Jefferson Barracks in St. Louis after a mass burial service. The remains, 12 junior officers and 15 enlisted men, were killed in Army Air Force missions over Germany. DoD confirmed the bodies could not be individually identified, though names were determined. The dead hailed from 16 states and were honored with family attendance.
