Ex Mt Vernon resident Bob Edson told Benton police he awoke at 11 45 p m to a prowler who opened a window and climbed inside He fired a 12 gauge shotgun wounding the intruder in the leg and forcing him to flee The burglar was not identified and remained at large as police could not confirm his route or capture details Edson is son of George Edson of Mt Vernon.

A truck owned by A D Griffith of 1005 South Bist Street was heavily damaged by a fire at 1 45 a m Sunday. The cab was destroyed as firefighters arrived after a driveway blaze. Earlier, at 10 50 a m Sunday, another call reported a heater flare up at S A Wheeler’s home at 1725 Cherry with no damage.

Three Treated For Injuries At Local Hospital
A man and two children were treated at Jefferson Memorial Hospital after separate weekend mishaps. Jackie Hughes, 5, of Bonnie, fractured his left arm after falling from a hayloft Friday evening. Linda Sue Merrill, 5, of Forrest, fractured her right elbow area when she jumped off her porch Saturday. Doyt Ashby, 45, of Bluford, fractured his left foot Sunday night when a lid from an ice refrigeration car fell on him. All were released after treatment.

The Rev. E. H. Thomas a former pastor of the Church of God in Mt. Vernon died suddenly Thursday in Anderson Indiana Friends here were notified He led Mt Vernon church in 1947 when located at 1406 S 10th St later moving to 7th and Conger He worked at the car company during ministry He is survived by his wife and two daughters Funeral services were held yesterday in Warrior Alabama.

Clinton Reunion At City Park Draws About 100 Members
The Clinton family reunion was held at the city park with about one hundred attendees. A basket dinner occurred at noon and a business meeting in the afternoon elected officers for the coming year: Carl Drennan president, Thelma Whittington vice president, Elva Casey secretary and treasurer. The program included family histories, a Barber Shop Quartet and Chorus performance, and a note that next year’s reunion will be in Mt. Vernon on the second Sunday in September.

Hanes collection to be shown at historical society
