Tom Wells 52 a former high school state champion basketball player in 1920 died suddenly at his Carmi home after a heart attack. He operated the Blue Diner Cafe in Carmi for 11 years and held membership in the Carmi Christian church Gideon Society and Carmi Lions Club. Survived by wife Lena Myers, son Thomas H. Wells Jr., daughter Mrs. Glenn Becker, two sisters and two brothers. Funeral set for 2:30 p.m. Sunday in Carmi.

Boy Sets Fire To Store And House In Illinois
A 10 year old boy from St Augustine Illinois admitted to setting a fire that destroyed a grocery store and a nearby house. Fire marshal Walter E Parker said the youth aimed at the store over anger with the proprietor and burned the house due to anger with the Oyler family. He allegedly started the store fire by igniting newspapers Aug 14 and the house fire Aug 19. No charges yet. the boy was held for juvenile authorities and not identified.
