Woman Faces Assault Charge in Hammer Attack
In Pekin a 40 year old woman, Verny D. Ozment, is charged with assault with a deadly weapon after police say she admitted striking 70 year old neighbor Robert Wheeler with a hammer during a Tuesday argument. Wheeler was found dead in the burned ruins of his three room cottage Wednesday. deputy fire marshal said the blaze appeared set deliberately. Wheeler was momentarily conscious when aid returned him to the cottage.

In court on a charge of failure to yield he told the mayor I have quit driving I junked my 1939 car and cancelled my automobile insurance. The mayor dismissed the charge as punishment. Woman Dies In Train-Car Crash At Galesburg
A train car collision Friday in Galesburg resulted in the death of Mrs. Maude Anderson of Avon and serious injuries to Mrs. Alberta Hopson, also of Avon. Police said the drivers failed to heed warning signals at the crossing where the Santa Fe Grand Canyon Limited, moving about 20 mph, struck the car.
