Chocolate Bar Originator Dies
William F. R. Murrie, 77, originator and popularizer of the modern chocolate bar, died last night at Muhlenberg Hospital in Plainfield New Jersey. He was the first president of the Hershey Chocolate Company, retired in 1947, and had lived in Plainfield since then. He joined Milton S. Hershey in 1896 as a salesman in Lancaster Pennsylvania, later becoming general manager and first president when the plant moved to Hershey in 1903.
