First Methodist Choir Rehearsal Tonight at 7:30

The First Methodist Choir will meet for a routine rehearsal tonight at 7 30 o clock. Separately the Mary Martha Circle of the Westminster Society plans a dessert luncheon on Friday September 9 at 1 30 p m at the home of Mrs Clyde Hawkins on Isabella Avenue with Mrs Lowell Dearinger assisting and Mrs A H Wheeler delivering the program. Marion County polio death tallest 12 year old

In Patoka Illinois a 12 year old girl Helen Faye Trushell died of polio at her Marion county farm home three miles south of Patoka while awaiting an ambulance. It was the county's fourth polio death that summer.

Golden Wedding For Huffstutlers

Saturday marks the 50th wedding anniversary of Mr. and Mrs. Co. O. Huffstutler of Delafield. An open house will be held Sunday September 11 with a basket dinner on the lawn. The couple married September 10, 1899 at Mt. Vernon Indiana and have six sons and one daughter. They have roots in Hamilton County and farmed near McLeansboro before moving to Delafield.

Clarence Clark Dies in Missouri at 58

Clarence Clark known as Sleepy, age 58, died Wednesday night at his home near Poplar Bluff Missouri. A former Mt Vernon resident, he worked in Mt Vernon car shops for years before moving to Missouri 15 years ago to farm. Survived by wife Jessie and children Nadine Charlotte and Jerry, plus three brothers Linzy Abe Clark France Clark and two sisters Amy Summers and Mary Boster. Funeral services and burial set for Saturday afternoon in Poplar Bluff.

Richard Strauss a leading contemporary composer died in Garmisch Partenkirchen at age 85 after an illness that began mid August. The German prodigy began composing at six and had opus No 1 Festmusik for orchestra published at age 12.

Oil Tanks Ready For Corn Storage In Norris City Ill

Four 85,000 barrel oil tanks cleaned by sand blasting were ready to store the first 5,000,000 bushels of surplus corn for the Commodity Credit Corporation. A total of 15 tanks will be prepared at the wartime oil reservoir site in Norris City Illinois.
